Contact Lens Exam

Contact lenses are a popular option to vision correction; addressing:

  • Nearsightedness
  • Farsightedness
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia

Before a lens is placed on the eyes, your individual visual goals and needs are discussed to select an appropriate lens. Measurements of the cornea, and your prescription are analyzed to determine an initial contact lens prescription. It is not uncommon for there to be adjustments to the initial contact lens parameters to reach clear and comfortable vision in contact lenses.

Different contact lens types:

  • Soft Contact Lenses
  • Rigid Gas Permeablese
  • Ortho-Keratology (CRT) Lenses

  • A topographer maps out the contour of the cornea revealing any highs and lows within its structure. This information is then used to either select a more appropriate contact lens for the patient, or to design a custom contact lens.
  • Conditions such as Keratoconus, cause deformations to the cornea, and therefore conventional contact lenses are no longer appropriate
